About Annotate!
From Nikonians Wiki
Annotate Expert is a free software provided by Nikonians® It allows you to add textual comments (“annotations” or “notes”) and highlight images (to create "virtual crops") which are bound to coordinates in JPG images.
Annotate can be downloaded here: https://www.nikonians.org/annotate
The program was designed to be as simple as possible to use, with a straight-forward user interface, not overloaded with functionality.
This is your basic starters guide. We also discuss the Annotate program at Nikonians.org in our Digital Post-Processing and Workflow forum: https://www.nikonians.org/annotate/discuss
The program can be used for instructional purposes, enabling one or more photographers to give critiques on a photograph, including their proposed enhancements, as comments directly onto the image. Another scenario is where a team works in a collaborative effort with images, such as in a book-publishing project, where they add notes and comments to the images without the need to create additional PDF’s or emails with the comments.
Annotate also allows you to tag people in the photographs and share the photographs with your friends. You can send annotated images via email directly from Annotate
Annotate makes it very easy to create, annotate and share screenshots of your desktop.
The annotations are stored in a non-destructible way in the EXIF part of the image file (in the file’s “header”), not changing the image itself. The annotations are stored in an XMP format and do not take up much space. A total maximum of up to 60,000 characters can be added as annotations to a single image.
Annotated images behave just like regular files: If you open them in a regular image viewer, which is not Annotate aware, you will see the regular image with no annotations. However, if you open the image in the Annotate program, or in an Internet browser which supports the Annotate format, you will see the attached annotations.
If you want to show the world your annotations without worrying if they have an “Annotate-aware” system, you can simply export the annotations, storing them together with the image in a newly created JPG file. This JPG will have the annotations placed on an additional border outside of the annotated image itself.
During the export you can also preview the result, modify arrangement of the annotation text boxes and decide if you want to include additional image info, such as camera model, aperture, shutter speed and ISO in the final image. This newly exported JPG file can easily be rescaled to a certain image size and may be forced to be less than 150KByte in size — a useful setting if you want to export the file for being used in the Nikonians forums or to make it easier to exchange vie email attachments.
