Burning in
From Nikonians Wiki - FAQs, Photo Glossary, Good Photo Locations, Help
Burning in refers to selectively darkening a part of an image, often darkening only the light tones, mid tones or dark tones. The term comes from practice in a wet darkroom, but it is more commonly now achieved in digital postprocessing, with a burn tool such as that provided by Adobe Photoshop.
