Constant aperture
From Nikonians Wiki - FAQs, Photo Glossary, Good Photo Locations, Help
A constant aperture zoom lens is a lens designed so that the maximum aperture of the lens does not change as it progresses through its focal length. An example is the 70-200 f2.8, which is capable of f2.8 throughout its range, by comparison with the 70-300 f4-f5.6, which allows f4 at 70mm focal length, but only f5.6 at 300mm.
Generally speaking, Nikon professional zooms are constant aperture, while its other zooms are focal-length dependent aperture.
