Originally Digital Video Disk, DVD now stands for Digital Versatile Disk, and is a format capable of containing gigabytes of data, either for playing as Digital Video (DV) or storing large amounts of data. Both factory pressed and recordable formats are available, of which the most versatile is DVD+R which supersedes the older DVD-R format.
