DX lenses
From Nikonians Wiki - FAQs, Photo Glossary, Good Photo Locations, Help
Introduced in 2003. Nikkor G, slightly lighter and smaller lenses, designed to fill the smaller frame of the DX (APS-C) format sensor size used in a Nikon Digital SLR cameras series (D40, D50, D60, D780, D80, D90, D100, D200, D300, and D2 series). The first was the AF-S DX 12-24mm f/4G IF-ED Nikkor. Ideal for landscape photographers with a DX format camera body.
Although they will operate on a full frame (FX format, like the D700 and D3 series) DSLR or a 35mm film camera, they will severely vignette because they are designed to fill the smaller frame of an APS-C format sensor.
