Focusing screen cleaning

Most Nikon SLR cameras have detachable focusing screens. These can be removed for cleaning. However, unless there is visible dust or smears on the screen — visible through the viewfinder — it is better not to remove it, since this is more likely to introduce dust or smearing.
When handling focusing screens, the proper tool should always be used and, naturally, fingers should never touch the optical surface.
