G
From Nikonians Wiki - FAQs, Photo Glossary, Good Photo Locations, Help
In Nikon lens nomenclature, a G type lens is a lens which does not include a physical/mechanical aperture ring, and which requires the aperture to be set electronically by the camera. G type lenses will not function with cameras which do not have this feature, which essentially means all cameras which do not have a shutter priority or program mode.
Although many photographers complain about the absence of a physical aperture ring, these rings were, in any case, incompatible with the correct functioning of dSLR cameras, and should be locked at minimum aperture.
