Lens speed
From Nikonians Wiki - FAQs, Photo Glossary, Good Photo Locations, Help
By extension from the concept of shutter speed, lens speed relates to the maximum aperture of a lens. A lens with a large aperture, such as an f1.8 prime lens or an f2.8 zoom lens, is a 'fast' lens, whereas a prime with a maximum aperture of f4 would be a slow lens, as would a zoom lens with a variable aperture of f4-f5.6.
