This is an anti-reflective lens coating technology developed by Nikon to reduce ghosting and flare. Most effective when shooting images with the sun in the frame, in bright sunlight or under intense studio lighting. By virtue of this coating, stray rays of light are redirected as perpendicularly as possible to the sensors surface.
