Single Lens Reflex Camera, where the photographer looks through the lens via a mirror and a prism which bring the light to the viewfinder. When the shutter is depressed, the mirror is moved out of the way, so that the light passes directly through the lens to the film or sensor. Nikon's current SLR cameras are prefixed F, such as the F6, or D, such as the D3. Recent cameras have had the FM prefix, and some Nikon film SLRs have had the N prefix.
