Shutter shake
From Nikonians Wiki - FAQs, Photo Glossary, Good Photo Locations, Help
Shutter shake is vibrations caused by the movement of the shutter and, in an SLR camera, the mirror mechanism which introduce blur into the final image when the shutter speed is low.
'Shutter shake' is often, but incorrectly, used to refer to other kinds of camera shake.
Shutter shake at low speeds can be best avoided by
- using mirror lock-up
- mounting the camera on a heavy tripod, which tends to dampen vibrations by increasing the overall mass of the system.
Heavier cameras are, all other things being equal, less prone to shutter shake than lighter cameras.
