Annotate-Saving and sharing images

Jump to: navigation, search

Saving the image

Whenever you are done annotating the image, save the image by clicking the save icon below the image preview on the left or just close the image or the application, which offers you to save the image. You can also press Ctrl + S to save currently loaded image.

Note: When you save the image, the original image is not modified. All the annotations and any eventual crop are stored in the EXIF header part of the JPG file in XMP format. If the image is opened by another Annotate! user, the annotations will show. You do not need to export the file if you are working in a collaborative effort with images and where all the team members are using Annotate!

Sharing images with others

You have various options how to share your annotated images. You can either save and send the annotated jpg file to your friends and they can see the annotations when they open the image in Annotate.

In case you would like to upload the image to forums, you can export the jpeg image with all annotations drawn. You can also send the image via email either with all annotations drawn or with the annotations stored in the image header.

To share your image, just click the “Export” tab, or Ctrl + E to save the image into a new JPG. You can preview the image before exporting it, setting the output size of the image and more. If you want to export the image to be used in the Nikonians forums, you can force the resulting image to be smaller than 150KByte in size, which is the maximum size allowed for forum attachments at Nikonians. You can still edit annotation text and move annotations around borders of the image.

You can set image size, include EXIF information, include your name (and Nikonians.org username) and edit layout of the annotation textboxes (by dragging them with the mouse) in the export dialog.

Select how to share the image

You can select a way to share the image by selecting an export module in the export tab.

Current export modules allow you to:

  • Export the jpeg with annotations drawn
  • Send the jpeg with annotations drawn via email
  • Send the jpeg with annotations in the header via email

There will be additional export modules in upcoming versions of Annotate.

Select_export_mode.jpg

You can select an export module by clicking one of the icons in the lower right corner ofa “Export” tab. The button above the icons then performs the selected action for you (e.g. sends the image via email or exports the jpeg image).
