Diapositive
From Nikonians Wiki
Diapositive is a technical term for an image produced with colour reversal film, more commonly known as slide film. The term diapositive is rarely used, and photographers often refer to transparencies, although, technically speaking, transparencies or 'trannies' refer to the result once processed.
Diapositives are preferred for commercial reproduction, because they only pass through a set of lenses once, rather than twice as is the case for photographic prints. However, most high-end scanners are equally able to scan transparencies or negatives. Nonetheless, although diapositives have a lower dynamic range, they are capable of a higher density.
