Downsampling
From Nikonians Wiki
Downsampling is the converse of upsampling, and reduces the size of an image file, typically for transmission, placement on a web page, easier viewing, or preparation for print.
Downsampling is generally not problematic compared with upsampling, although bi-cubic downsampling (sharper) in Adobe Photoshop will produce marginally better results than linear downsampling.
