Focal plane

From Nikonians Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

In optics, the focal plane is one of the cardinal points and planes of the optical system.

In an ideal lens system, the focal plane is a plane parallel to the lens which contains the focal point, and which is thus a plane on which everything is in focus.

In practice, the focal plane is the plane of maximum focus, but for most lenses focus diminishes towards the corners of the lens.

  • When a point is in focus on the lens, every other point which is the same distance from the lens will be in focus.
