IQ - Image Quality
From Nikonians Wiki
Image Quality -or IQ as abbreviation- is generally used to describe the relative quality of an image produced by a given film or digital camera sensor in real life situations.
It is the result of the combined effect of the obtained sharpness (contrast and acutance) which translate into resolution (detail), noise performance when at high ISO and other factors such as effective color depth (Tonal Range & Color Sensitivity) and Dynamic range.
An effort to create quantitative comparative measures of it as applied to digital camera sensors has been made both by Nikonians members -most notably Bill Claff (bclaff), who developed the Photographic Dynamic Range concept- and by DXO Labs with DXO Marks.
By extension, the term IQ is also loosely used for comparison of lenses quality.
