Posing

From Nikonians Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Posing is the positioning of the model or sitter for the most pleasing photographic effect.

There are basically two ways of doing posing.

Professional models learn a variety of standard poses, and are adept at moving swiftly from one to the next. They also develop skills in responding to the photographer's verbal instructions. Part of a professional model's skill is being able to make any pose look natural.

Sitters for portraits, and others being photographed consciously who are not professional models, often struggle to make even their ordinary stance natural when in front of a camera. In this case, the photographer's skill involves psychological aspects of posing to achieve a natural looking pose which is suitable for the intended picture.
