How can I install Annotate on another drive than C?
Answer: It is not possible. Annotate can only install itself directly on your computer. It is not possible to download it to a separate location, e.g. to a flash drive.
The reason is that Annotate uses a technology that ensures that you will get future updates with the new features automatically as soon as we release them.
The installer is online only – available from Nikonians (http://nikonians.org/annotate). This ensures that all Nikonians are always installing the most current version of Annotate. When you install Annotate, it will download and install itself on your C: drive (or whichever is your default) in a special safe folder called “Application Cache”. This is the reason why you cannot change the install location. This folder is not normally accessible to users and is managed by Windows. Annotate only takes 2 megabytes which is less than the size of a single photograph, so you don’t need to worry about its size on your C: drive. You can uninstall Annotate from your computer using the Control Panel – Add/Remove programs at any time and it will not leave any files behind.
To install annotate, just click the “Install” button on the download page and it downloads either a file called “Annotate.application” or “setup.exe”. In both cases, run the file and Annotate will take care of the rest.
Why do you only have a Windows version of Annotate available?
Answer: A lot of photographers are using Macintosh and we are more than aware of that. Our current goal was to create a first version of the software quickly and thanks to the Nikonians members, where more than 80 percent are Windows users, we have been able to fine-tune features based on community requests. We are listening to feedback from all Nikonians and almost all of the requests from the community have been implemented. There has been a few inquiries about a Mac version and we have decided that we will release a version that will run on Mac OS X in 2010.
For now, you have an option to use virtualization software and run Annotate on Mac.
