How to upload images
With the uploader, you can upload one or more images easily to the Nikonians galleries. Just drag & drop the image(s) you want to upload to the open window of the application, select where they should be uploaded and hit the "Upload" button.
Downsizing images
Nikonians galleries refuse images or videos bigger than 10MB. Maximal resolution of image can be 1800 pixels. To allow uploading images from modern cameras, Nikonians Uploader can downscale the image.
In case the image exceeds 10MB, then it is marked with red sign and upload button is disabled. Following picture shows how it looks like.
Double-clicking on such image opens Optimizer dialog. It does following:
- downsizes image to 1800 pixels if its resolution is higher
- applies sharpening
- applies JPEG compression (Quality slider) in case original image was in JPEG format
- displays actual file size
It is possible to tweak sharpening and compression and see in real time what it does with the image, so that user can judge if it is not over sharpened or compression artifacts are not visible.
This process is not changing original file. It uses temporary directory for storing all changes. When you are satisfied with the changes hit the “Accept” button and thumbnail description changes accordingly.
Please note, this mark does not mean only optimized image can be uploaded. Images without any mark can be uploaded too. They just might have bigger resolution than Nikonians galleries store and they will be downsized after upload. That however leads to longer upload time and it does not offer any possibility to review how the image will look like.
It is possible to return to Optimizer and modify previous settings. It will use previously accepted values, but it will load original image, so there is no degradation of image quality.
If you are not satisfied with new values you can hit Cancel button and previous values will be reapplied.
Downsizing all images
It might be tedious to optimize all images individually. It is possible to perform batch optimization with Auto button. All selected images (or all images if none is selected) will be processed. It is possible to review and tweak automatically processed images afterwards. Just double click on individual image to open Optimizer dialog.
Uploading images
As soon as you hit the upload button your images will be uploaded to Nikonians. Please note that the images will be placed in the image upload queue in your gallery and a new dialog opens with the queue showing after the upload has been done.
You can now fill out additional information you want to attach to the images. If you are happy with how things are, just hit the "Process" button at the bottom of the dialog.
To avoid long processing times, queue will show at most 10 images. Additional images will be displayed only after processing actual set.
Should you want to open the upload queue in the galleries manually from the Uploader, simply click the button "Link to commit" and you will process the queue - if there are images still to be processed.
Creation of albums
You cannot create albums out of the uploader right now. If you want to create albums you need to do that from the regular gallery web page.
Will Nikonians Uploader support Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) or older versions?
We are currently not supporting 10.5 Leopard or older versions. The chances that we will support 10.5 are very small. This is also true for the upcoming Mac version of Annotate Expert
